One of the rare fast 85mm lens in M42 ( & also Exakta ) mount , its probably a development of the 100mm/2.0 lens which exist also in M42, exakta & Leica Screw mount. One distinguishing feature of this lens is its preset 16 blade aperture diaphram; making almost round aperture even at smaller f/stop. As a very early fast 85 and a simple Double Gauss design. It had actually quite remarkable flare resistance although contrast and color saturation is on the low side. A good hood is being called for here. And just like its other fast M42 85mm subling ( the Soviet Helios-40-2, the German Enna Ennaston ) It was a remarkably heavy mount requiring a solid firm handling and a strong wrist.

Capture on Konica Impressa 100, scanned via lab ( Fuji FDI high resolution ) and converted to toned B&W digitally. This is done at f4.0 handheld aperture auto with a +0.5 compensation. The Komura 85/1.4, being a very early fast lens do show fair amount of coma at 1.4, improve by2.0, with little residual at 2.8, and totally gone by 4.0 ; however its these residual optical fault that made this lens quite well in rendering out of focus area. When in focus, it actually display fairly high resolution ( for a vintage 50’s non-multi-coated lens of this nature )
